We had an amazing trip (west-east extended combo). Everything was well organised by Cactus tours. Big shout out to Rojo, organising it all, and to Liansoa and Ndimbi, our 2 guides. There were 5 of us (parents and 3 adult boys). Great range of places and sites and the accommodation was definitely better than expected, especially on Ile Sainte Marie, where we spent the last few days. Saw lots of wildlife, learned a lot about Madagascar, visited lots of villages and markets and met lots of lovely people. Overall an amazing trip, would love to go back, and if we did, we’d definitely use Cactus Tours again!

The Madagascar Birding Express is an eight-day trip that allows you to have a chance of seeing many of the birds of Madagascar, lemurs and other wildlife, including chameleons. It doesn't visit either the north or the south of the country, but you have a chance of seeing all the endemic bird families (which we did). We also saw many other species and 11 species of lemur. The guides were excellent and the transport as comfortable and rapid as possible in the difficult travelling experience of Madagascar.

We had the best trip we could have imagined. We travelled from Tana to Mantadia, travelled to the Tsiribihina river and did a rivertrip with camping, went to Tsingy, Kirindi and Morondova, then to Nosy Be for a total of 3 weeks. The planning, the comfort, the food, the people, the smiles, the striking beauty of Madagascar, the wildlife (sooo many lemurs!!!)… We loved every part of it. Special thanks to Elsa for arranging everything to toughtfull and perfect for us. The itinerary and pricing was very transparant. Thank you Aina for being our amazing and friendly guide and teaching and showing us so much. Thanks to our drivers who were always attentive, smiling and making sure we got to our destination in a safe way. Last but not least thanks to our local guides who seemed to know every secret Madagascar was keeping. We highly recommend cactus tours to everyone who has a sense for adventure and wants to explore Madagascar in a way that feels very authentic and special.

Our 12-day Madagascar adventure exceeded every expectation! From the otherworldly Avenue of the Baobabs at sunset to spotting playful lemurs in Andasibe rainforest, each day brought pure magic. Nosy Be's turquoise waters and exploring other islands were unforgettable highlights. Local guides were knowledgeable and warm, food was delicious, and the landscapes felt truly untouched. A trip of a lifetime — highly recommend

It was an amazing experience to be back in Madagascar and experience so many new species that I had not seen before. Each location we visited offered something new. Guides were knowledgeable about the fauna.

First of all, we would like to thank you very much for putting together such a thoughtful and well-organized itinerary for our stay in Madagascar. The baobabs, lemurs and whales made this journey truly unique and very different from any other trip we have taken.
We would like to share some of our impressions and suggestions, which may be useful to you when organizing trips for Russian-speaking tourists in the future.
All transfers were handled flawlessly, both in terms of timing and overall quality. The drivers were highly professional, polite and courteous.
All flights operated on time and without any difficulties for us.
The half-board arrangements at all the hotels were quite satisfactory.
The hotel in Antananarivo on our arrival was acceptable, although rather basic. Since it was essentially a transit hotel, it might be worth considering a more modern property located closer to the airport.
Kirindy National Park is certainly worth visiting. However, the accommodation inside the park was of rather low standard.tэ We understand that there may be higher-quality accommodation options in the area, and these might be worth considering for some clients.
The program in Kirindy was comprehensive and interesting. It might, however, be worthwhile to include a more in-depth visit to a local village, allowing guests to gain a better understanding of the everyday life and traditions of the local people.
The hotel in Morondava was acceptable. One practical issue, however, was the considerable distance between our bungalow and the reception, with a large part of the walk being through deep sand. This was somewhat difficult for an elderly person. In such cases, it might be helpful to notify the hotel in advance and request a bungalow located closer to the reception area.
Our accompanying guide deserves special praise, not only for her careful and professional handling of the itinerary, but also for her willingness to share additional information about Madagascar and answer our questions.
The five-hour drive from the capital to Antasibe was not particularly comfortable, mainly because of the condition of the roads. Fortunately, the journey was made more enjoyable by lunch at an excellent restaurant on the outskirts of the capital.
During such a long journey, however, we felt that there was an opportunity for the guide to provide more commentary about the places, people and landscapes we were seeing along the way. Unfortunately, this did not happen.
We experienced a similar situation on the journey to the airport in Taomasina, which took approximately six hours. Altogether, we spent around eleven hours travelling by road while observing many interesting aspects of everyday life through the car window, but without much explanation or commentary. For foreign visitors, such commentary can greatly enrich the experience and make a long journey much more interesting.
The lodge in Antasibe fully met our expectations. Once again, however, we were given a room located quite far from the main facilities, which was tiring for an elderly person. It would therefore be advisable to discuss the location of the room with the lodge in advance when accommodating older guests.
The program in Antasibe was rich and very interesting. Including the private Lemur Island was definitely a good decision, particularly because it gave us the opportunity to observe the animals at very close range.
More generally, we believe that if Madagascar is to further develop its tourism potential, transportation is one of the areas that deserves particular attention. Five- to six-hour journeys on roads that are often in poor condition can be quite demanding and may not be suitable for all travelers, especially older guests.
The flight on a private aircraft was an excellent solution for reaching Sainte-Marie and made the journey considerably more comfortable.
Our stay at Princess Bora Lodge was thoroughly enjoyable. We were very satisfied both with the quality of the lodge and with the whale-watching program. We believe this is an excellent option and would certainly recommend it to other travelers.
Our final day in Antananarivo was arranged according to our wishes. The accompanying guide was very attentive and responsive to our requests. His Russian language skills, however, still have room for improvement.
Overall, we were very satisfied with the services provided by Cactus Tour. The itinerary was interesting, diverse and very well organized, and the trip gave us many unforgettable impressions.
We would like to thank the entire Cactus Tour team for their work and will be happy to recommend your company to our friends and acquaintances.

Aina was fantastic. Really helped me through the trip. Loved the hotels, food and the animals. Fascinating country, though sad to see such poverty. Rina was very helpful as well. Thank you for all you kindness and support!

We didn't know what to expect in Madagascar, but it was awesome. My only regret is we didn't have more time (and we had 18 days).
Cactus Tours listened to what we wanted and designed a great sampler tour of many different areas of Madagascar (which is what I requested). The guides and drivers were all great, they made the trip more fun. Aina was our main guide and she was truly awesome. The Cactus team was super accommodating with our extra bags (we were headed to climb Kilimanjaro after Madagascar and didn't want to haul all the extra gear around for the entire trip, so they held them at their office, and we added to the stash as we bought more...).
The only lodging that was less than ideal was disclosed to us in advance, and we choose to stay there because it was closer to the Avenue of the Baobabs and near the place where we might see the Fossa (which we saw). It just made for yet another memory, and for us was totally worth it to save on driving.
I brought Starlink because of connectivity and security concerns based on what I'd read, but never took it out of the bag. The people of Madagascar were awesome and we never felt like there was any security issues or concerns. We booked a private flight to avoid some time on the road....that worked perfectly.
The only hick-up was they tried to explain to me that the lodging I selected in Nosy Be might be a bit much. I thought they meant price, but as I walked up and saw the house on the beach, with two bedrooms, two private cabanas, a pool and two covered areas I just started laughing (it was just my wife and I). Yep, clearly I should have stayed out of the way or listened better, but zero regrets, it was an awesome way to close out our time in Madagascar.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. There are still areas I'd like to explore. And I'd definitely hire Cactus again.

We loved every moment of the journey. It was surely not always easy, with difficult roads, long drives and, at time, lack of comfort. But it was totally worth it. Madagascar is a amazing, colorful country with unique fauna and flora and the custom route agreed with Cactus helped us meet a good, representative part of it: Rainforest, spiny forest, dry areas, sea-sides, cities and villages. We came close to animals with the help of our guides, spotting lemurs, chameleons, birds, insects, frogs, snakes from up close.
We felt safe all the way, with the care of our guides and excellent driving of our drivers. We experienced local life, customs, history and culture. We hiked mountains and canyons, trekked through forests, but also had some nice relaxing downtime by the sea or refreshing pools of our hotels. We received suggestions for local restaurants and activities that added color to our trip.
We highly recommend Cactus for its know-how, planning and responsiveness. We appreciate the fact that the hotels used were primarily Malagasy and that local communities were utilized wherever we went, to ensure fair travelling ethics. But most of all, we would like to recognize the contribution of Cactus people:
-Nandih & Aina, our wonderful, energetic, knowledgable guides.
-Bari & Njaka, our polite, reliable drivers.
-Rojo & Elsa, who have helped us design the perfect trip for us.
Thank you all!!!

An exceptional trip from start to finish — Cactus Tours Madagascar delivered exactly what a bespoke adventure should be.
Every aspect was carefully planned around our interests, yet there was still room for the kind of spontaneous gems that make a trip truly memorable — including an impromptu stop at a local artisan rhum distillery our guide spotted along the way. Having a knowledgeable guide with us at all times was incredibly reassuring and added so much to the experience; nothing was too much trouble and their local knowledge was second to none.
If you want to explore Madagascar on your own terms, with expert support every step of the way, Cactus Tours are the people to trust. We'll be back!

We just completed a 17 day tour of Madagascar which we organised through Cactus tours. We found Cactus tours to be a great company to work with, the guides were generally very good and we felt looked after. The hotels we selected were all of a good standing and our itinerary that we worked on together was also great. Thanks Rina for all your help. Michael & Bruce.

Trip was wonderfully curated. Guides and drivers were very good - always on time and had suggestions for increased interest of sites visited. Guides, both local and personal, were extremely informative on locations we visited, animals we saw, and a very good general knowledge of local customs, people and region.
There was not a lot of down time in the itinerary. Hotels were very nice; breakfast and some dinners were included. I would have liked to stay in some a few more days but schedule was set. I would have preferred hotel in Tana to be a bit closer to airport as a lot of time was spent driving to and from airport as flights were required to go to Morondava and Nosy Be. I was dependant on the airlines for scheduled flights; any changes to original flight times were communicated as necessary and driver/guides were rescheduled to meet new itinerary, pick me up and deliver me to airport. Most guides stayed with me until my flight was called, making sure I got thru security safely.
Overall trip was incredible. My goal was to see the baobab trees, lemurs, see the true Madagascar lifestyle, and spend time at the beach. All goals were met; I appreciated the attention to detail given by Cactus Tours; I felt very safe the entire time.

We had a great trip to Andasibe back in December! Cactus Tours was very professional, friendly, and easy to work with. I was able to tell them exactly what I was looking for, and they organized a brilliant tour for us. Everyone at the company, as well as the local guides they used, were excellent. Would highly recommend using this company to organize all of your trip needs while in Madagascar!
