The arrangements were very good, though a last-minute domestic flight change cost us a charter flight directly to Bemaraha. That was unfortunate, but everything else was managed smoothly. The hotels were very good, and we appreciated that it was easy to change dates to extend our stay by one more night.
Our itinerary was well-planned, though some long trips on rough roads were unavoidable but that’s just part of traveling in Madagascar, not the fault of the tour. The iming was perfect, with everything running right on schedule, even the flights!
We explored Bemaraha, Isalo, Kirindy, Ranomafana, and Beramaha, and the birds and landscapes in parks and reserves were fantastic. However, outside these protected areas, we found that the country in general is poorly conserved.
Our guide was excellent! A fantastic birder with deep knowledge of Madagascar, he knew exactly where to find the birds we were looking for. Plus, he was always joking and bringing good energy, which is exactly what you need on a trip like this! The car was good and handled the terrain well.

A Few Recommendations: pre-departure information about currency would be helpful. Many places only accept local currency, and ATMs weren’t always reliable. The best option was exchanging money at the bank upon arrival. Small gifts like keychains or postcards could be a nice way for travelers to interact with locals during the trip.

Rojo was always very responsive and efficient, making the trip planning easy and enjoyable. It was truly a pleasure to work with her. The itinerary was comprehensive, covering everything we wanted to see and more.
The hotels were mostly great, except for Relais de Kirindy, where there was no electricity in the room even after dinner, though this was eventually fixed. The schedule felt a bit tight at times, with some very long driving hours.
The drivers and Marinah were very good.
We would have preferred more time to enjoy some of the destinations. Marinah was very helpful, but the guiding experience could have been stronger. Despite this, I was very happy with the service and support provided by Rojo, which is the main reason I would choose Cactus Tours again for my future visits to Madagascar.
Palisandre Hotel in Tana was good, but Palissandre Côte d’Ouest was excellent. They have a great service, beautiful setting, and a wonderful place to stay.
The itinerary in Morondava was well-planned and enjoyable. Our timing throughout the trip was excellent despite the state of the roads. Everything ran smoothly and on schedule though.
We loved the the Avenue of the Baobabs at sunset. The landscape, the lighting, and the atmosphere made it actually a real unforgettable experience.
Manda and Ali were fantastic tour guides, they were so knowledgeable and friendly, making sure we had the best experience possible. The drivers in Morondava were also excellent, handling the roads well and ensuring a smooth journey. Pickups and transfers went without any issues, making travel stress-free.
The visit to the local workshops was fascinating. Watching artisans create their crafts was a great experience, and it was an amazing place for photography.

The hotels were a bit difficult to manage at first as we had to balance budget vs comfort, but we eventually figured it out and were pleasantly surprised – our room turned out to be surprisingly nice. The timing worked out well with car travel, and I really appreciated the extra 30 minutes added to our schedule!
What captivated me most about Madagascar was its diverse wildlife, stunning scenery, rich culture, fascinating food, and living history. Our driver/guide was exceptional – engaging, knowledgeable, humorous, and such a great driver!
The car was very comfortable, which was important since we had kids along. It wasn’t your typical windscreen experience, but that made it even more special! I would come back tomorrow if I could. I would absolutely recommend this tour, and I think it would be perfect for my friends too.
I loved the adventurous nature of the travel – it was truly a great success. I have to mention that the guides in all the parks were wonderful!

My trip to Madagascar with Cactus Tours was fantastic. They were incredibly well-organized, and I never had to worry about the arrangements. It was the little things that really made it special, like the bush tucker at the Avenue de Baobab restaurant. The itinerary worked out well. Looking back, an extra day in the west and one less in Antananarivo might have been ideal, but I understand these things can be hard to plan. It would be helpful if Cactus Tours could provide more information about flight options when booking, as the driving was quite extensive, though unavoidable. If flying back from the west had been an option and matched with our date, I think I would have enjoyed the trip even more.
Madagascar itself is fascinating. The baobabs were incredible, and I loved the rainforests. Seeing the chameleons, geckos, frogs, and tenrecs was amazing. The history of Madagascar was captivating, and I really enjoyed the city tour. Our driver and tour guide was fantastic – always responsible, on time, and considerate. The driving was great, and the overall organization was top-notch. I really appreciated that we had local guides everywhere we went. Desire in Andasibe was good, and the city tour guide was excellent as well. The car was also very comfortable.
Overall, Madagascar is a captivating place, and Cactus Tours really enabled us to see a lot, experience the culture, and visit many beautiful natural sites. The trip was very easy for us, and everything was perfectly organized. I would definitely recommend Cactus Tours to others.
