Where
the rainforest meets the Ocean.
Composed of equatorial primary rainforest and three
marine parks, the Masoala region
is the largest protected area of Madagascar. It is
one of the top five hotspots for biodiversity in the
world. It contains rich vegetation and eight lemur species as well as chameleons.
This rich but fragile marine and terrestrial ecosystem
is worth at least a 4-day-exploration. Masoala National
Park is part of a larger landscape/seascape in and
around
Antongil Bay.
The Marine Reserve is surrounded by a beautiful coral
reef and safe for activities.
Nosy Mangabe island, a part of Masoala contains numerous endemic species of animals and plants. It is also home for the world's smallest chameleon. In brief,
Masoala is actually a paradise for nature lovers and
researchers. You will end the trip by some time to
relax in Sainte Marie island.
Masoala has been also classified World Heritage by the Unesco as it is part of the forest of the east (Ala Antsinanana).
